INFO

The Moving Gallery is proud to announce that it will be opening its first set of doors to the public on 1st April 2010.

Over the next 12 months, the gallery will be based in various locations across Newcastle city centre and is one of the very first galleries in the city to involve itself with Newcastle Council’s new Empty Shop scheme.

This scheme was set up to address the increasing number of unused shop spaces in the centre of town and our first home will be found at the site of the old Roots Music at 67b Westgate Road. This is located next door to the Newcastle Arts Centre.

The primary aim of the Moving Gallery is to offer new graduates the opportunity to exhibit alongside more established artists and to learn how to operate and actively participate in a gallery system. The gallery will also seek to involve the wider community by offering a series of talks and workshops run by exhibiting artists and by ourselves at the gallery. We also have a number of performance evenings planned for the coming months, with a variety of exciting artists and performers due to participate in the gallery project.

Newcastle-based artists Leann De La Hay and Alex Breeze set up the Moving Gallery in summer 2009 and hope to establish the project as one of the city’s most innovative galleries with a series of vibrant and cutting edge exhibitions.
